Carrie was one of my favorite horror movies before I ever read the novel. On strictly a technical level this movie is gorgeous. The whole movie has to sort of dream-like quality as a result of the sort of fuzzy look most shots in this movie have. Mix that with the floaty camera work and violent splashes of color, you get a dizzying, hypnotic, and often beautiful movie.
Plot wise, it follows the novel fairly closely. The novel is a collection of testimonies and newspaper articles collected after prom night, and this movie starts weeks before the prom. We still get most of the same story beats minus some of the town wide destruction from Kings book. And I dont remeber a wacky suit renting montage and Carrie trying on makeup. But it's kinda fun so I have no reason to complain. the movie is definitely more fun than the book. A little less dark, but still full of scenes of abuse that still make me cringe.
Everyone working on this movie gave 110%, and it paid off. That massive one take at the prom alone makes this one of my favorites.
Oh and fuck John Travolta. And not in a hanging around gyms at 3am cruising for dudes kinda way
