what if gypsy rose was a definitely not gay teenager who's mom (aunt, whatever) also wanted to fuck him? this is a question i never wanted the answer to. but here we are.
For me, watching 80s horror is a lot of waiting for kills to happen. the acting usually inst great, and the plot is non existent or flimsy as hell. this movie is a total contrast to those types of movie. the plot here is interesting, the pacing is great, and its just wacky enough to gin that cult classic title. Susan Tyrell is hypnotically weird for the whole movie, and she managed to make me feel constantly uncomfortable every time she was on screen. probably the whole incest/pedophilia that gives her character a heavy shade of icky.
and the gay coach sub plot is definitely wild to see in a movie from 1981. Of course the movie is full of homophobia, but surprisingly our leading boy stands up for his coach. im surprised this movie got away with how openly gay it is. but i guess we have to cop who says fag in every scene he is in multiple times.
Even with the homophobia, Incest, toxic parents, and the worst kind of cops, this movie is definitely worth the watch. if it was up to me this movie would be in the queer library of congress.
