Brooklyn 45 is a 2023 American real-time supernatural thriller film written and directed by Ted Geoghegan ( He previously directed WE ARE STILL HERE, a kick-ass movie). Set on a freezing evening in December 1945, as five military veterans gather together in the ornate parlor of a Brooklyn brownstone. Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), Archibald "Archie" Stanton (Jeremy Holm), and Paul DiFranco (Ezra Buzzington). Best friends since childhood, they have reunited to support their troubled host - but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance, the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all too literal. Geoghegan penned the screenplay with assistance from his late father, a disabled Air Force Veteran-turned-history teacher.
This movie reminds me a lot of 12 ANGRY MEN, in that it would make an incredible play filled with in-depth conversations, social commentary, and some good old-fashioned philosophic questions of morality and death. It comes on strong with a classic creepy séance (complete with a gory practical ghost arm), and then steps back a bit to focus on the dysfunctional relationships between every character in this movie. So far back, in fact, the séance is damn near entirely forgotten and never resolved or addressed in the climax of the movie.
All that being said, this movie is pretty great.
