This movie is.. oh god where do i even start with this one.
for one, this movie lacks the surreal element of his other films. For the first time, i found it easy to understand the plot of a David Lynch movie. to try and summarize this insane movie in as few word as possible, this movie is about a man discovering the criminal under belly of the town he grew up in. for the first 30 minutes or so, this movie is quite simple. we get some character building and intros, a lovely severed ear to kick of this mystery, and of course some classic lynchian small town america. whats starts as a fairly light buddy cop style mystery suddenly explodes.
most of that explosion is thanks to Dennis Hopper as Frank. He is psychically and sexually violent, lashes out in fits of rage constantly, and has more mommy issues than a hundred Bjork's. he has one hell of a screen presence, and i found myself constantly terrified whenever he is on screen. mix that with the strange sexual relationship that forms between Jeff and Dorothy, the way he manipulates Sandy, a kidnapped child, and did i mention how completely terrifying frank is yet?
To try and summarize my feelings about this movie would be impossible, as there is simply way to much to talk about. its completely unlike any movie i have ever seen, to the point where it hard to compare it to anything else. buts its not hard at all to give this one a...
