BINGO HELL

Shout out to my Nana, who even knowing how hellish Bingo night would would be, she would still be there early. maybe i should have found a better picture...

In the Barrio of Oak Springs live a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Their leader, Lupita, keeps them together as a community, a family. But little did they know, their beloved Bingo hall is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.

i was excited to watch this movie when i first heard about its concept, and far less excited when i saw the BLUM-HOUSE logo on the poster. with my expectations now right around the middle, i was perfectly prepared for this right around the middle movie. all of the seniors in this movie are all wonderfully well acted and strong characters (Lupitas a bit of a cliche but oh well) and they do a good job of giving the fairly standard small town setting enough character of its own. but after about half an hour you start to get antsy. if you were expecting a VFW style elders kicking ass action movie, this movie will definitely leave you wanting more. but as you can tell with the wonderfully nasty gore right around the 37 minute mark, this movie has a much more NEEDFUL THINGS be careful what you wish for vibe.

i really wanted to like this movie, but in every area it falls just short of being great. all of the kills in this movie are amazing, but they are few and far between. all of the characters get individual moments that i love, but again they are few and far between. the soundtrack is mostly as cliche as possible, the whole movie looks cheap, and besides the kills there isn't anything really satisfying in this movie. and that whole Caled side plot was totally unnecessary and just slowed things down waaaaaaaaay to much for my liking.

it is possible to make a great movie with this concept, but this isn't it. its damn close to it though.

at least Dolores was at the top of her game, even if nobody else was.

BLUM-HOUSE movie/10
