"We made the decision for the sequels not to do necessarily what other science fiction movies do, Which is if they want water they go to the ocean planet; and if they want snow, they go to the ice planet... We realized we could travel our whole lives and not see all the true wonders Earth has. So Jim made the decision to set the sequels all on Pandora. Our stories introduce us to different environments and also different cultures."

Avatar: The Way of Water is a 2022 American "epic" science fiction film directed by James Cameron from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, with a story the trio wrote with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.
Here’s the official plot synopsis, courtesy of Disney:
"Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water tells the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure."
Originally, it was supposed to land in cinemas all the way back in December 2014. However, thanks to multiple pre-production issues – including a lengthy wait for the correct technology to become available – the film has been delayed eight times. Honestly, i had ne real interest in watching this movie. Then Rayne mentioned it to me, and then she mentioned it again, and soon enough i realized she wanted to go and see it. i bought us tickets, i bought us popcorn, and we got into the surprisingly packed theater just in time to skip most of the trailers. we told ourselves even if it sucks, at least all of the underwater stuff would be really pretty.
About an hour later, we walked out of the movie, never getting a single glimpse of any water whatsoever.
Long story short, this movie is just pointless. Why the fuck are we literally using the best possible effects, CGI, actors, and lest we forget 250 million USD on some mostly forgotten property like this? Can you imagine if DREAMWORKS had put all of the countless man hours, 8 years of pre-production, and 3 hour runtime on the new SHREK movie? The whole thing is just fucking baffling to me man.
it doesn't help seeing so much racial violence lately, it really no suprise so many Indeginous folks were boycotting this movie. Native American TV writer Kelly Lynne D’Angelo, who has written episodes of Netflix’s “Spirit Rangers,” suggested people could “donate the avatar money to Native communities,” instead of watching the film. “You took our land, then our children, then our skin,” she wrote. “Can’t you see this is *still* manifest destiny in action?”
this movie feels like a minstrel show gone from black to blue.
this movie feels like James Cameron playing cowboys and Indians in the least creative way possible
this movie turns real life tragedy and death into a half assed water world remake nobody ever wanted
this movie is one big blue slap in the face, but hey at least the fish are pretty sometimes
