I love a movie that's not afraid to kill a kid or two. Hollywood has such an aversion to it I tend to cheer whenever I see it, however inappropriate that may be
I have seen this movie a few times now, and the first few times I treated it as a harmless comedy. I really wasn't too interested in a real deep dive on this one, but after we watching it recently there's a surprising amount worth talking about
And this movie is a very well written gremlins style comedy that is easy to engage with. 1950s setting of this movie makes it feel familiar, but as far as zombie movies go this film is entirely unique. That's because it's not really a zombie movie at all. It's a post zombie movie. Not one of those "it just ended and we're still kind of in shambles" type of deals. The zombie apocalypse has been over for quite some time now, and people are expected to have moved on.
it would be impossible for me to talk about all of the little bits that make this so interesting. Much as I would like to get into it's fight the power stance, it's uncomfortable closeness to slavery, address is the family dynamic, how we treat the working class, and so much more.
I really can't recommend this movie enough.
Somewhat ironically, this movie stands the test of time we'll.
10/10
