"Movies by Rob Zombie, the goth rocker turned cult filmmaker, aren't for everybody. But he couldn't care less. He makes movies exactly the way he wants to, with no thought of pleasing mainstream audiences. They can like it or lump it. His latest effort, The Lords of Salem, is true to form."

The Lords of Salem is a 2012 supernatural horror film written, produced, and directed by Rob Zombie. It stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davison, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Ken Foree, Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace, María Conchita Alonso, Judy Geeson, and Meg Foster.
Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Herman's
(Whitey and Munster) forms part of the "Big H Radio Team." A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they're expecting. The original Lords of Salem are returning and they're out for blood.
As somebody who has seen HOUS OF A THOUSAND CORPSES a lot, i love the absence of the signature Hellbilly style all of his other films share. This movies opening actually reminds me of THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE, and i love how Rob Zombie was able to keep all of the fun while still managing to tell a serious drama with strong characters played by familiar actors. its well directed, well acted, has a wonderfully subdued color pallet, and is easily the most mature film rob zombie has ever made.
the only real complaint i have about this movie is just how obviously fake this movies radio show is. its on par with the NOT-SEE PARTY podcast from Tusk, and the idea that there show would ever be aired is ridiculous beyond belief.
