Introducing diet jigsaw! Same old fashion Gore you know and love with a brand new face!
When I was a kid I was a big fan of the collection, the sequel to this movie. I had no idea there was a prequel film for quite a while, and when I heard about it I wondered if it would live up to the original. It...
did? I haven't seen the sequel in quite a while so I will have to re-watch that, but I really enjoyed this movie. The first 30 minutes are devoted to character development, and I think the movie would be better without the first 20 minutes. I understand why the movie opens like that, but I find it unnecessary.
In the first 30 minutes we learn our main character has a daughter, spend time in prison, and used to commit heists as a safe breaker. So when his wife owes money to some loan sharks the only way he can think to repay it before midnight is to break into the house of the family that's been giving him work. The family also has a small daughter around the same age as his. Of course they put all this in the beginning to give you a reason to root for him. I think the main reason I don't like it is it so poorly shot. It's by far the weakest part of the movie, especially when compared to the cat-and-mouse home invasion Style during the rest of the runtime.
Speaking of home invasion Style, this movie puts a new spin on the home invasion. Similar to the movie Cube, almost every room is booby-trapped. Summer very obvious, and some are invisible unless your directly infront of them. This gives the movie an awesome sense of tension, anytime I character opens a door or moves you have to wonder if they're walking into a booby trap. And holy s*** are these booby traps brutal.
I'm a big gore fan as you probably know by now, and this is a wonderfully bloody and gross movie. If you are a gorehound like myself you will not be disappointed.
