TERROR VISON

I Have been hanging out in the 30s a lot lately, so i could use a good 80s cult favorite to cleanse the pallet.

i assumed this was a cult favorite.... it sure as shit isn't.

TerrorVision (AKA TV) is a 1986 American science fiction horror comedy film directed by Ted Nicolaou, produced and written by Albert and Charles Band and composed by Richard Band, all of whom would go on to found and work with Full Moon Features in 1989. A civilization on a distant planet's found a way to resolve its garbage problem; by turning it into energy, and transmitting it into space. A flaw in the system's found when the signal's accidentally picked up on Earth by the Putterman family's satellite dish. While this would ordinarily be just another mess, this particular transmission contains a hungry monster who quickly begins snacking on the Putterman's and their guests. Only the son has any knowledge of what's going on, but nobody

believes him.

When this movie first came out with a very limited release, Variety dismissed it as

"an uninvolving sci-fi thriller comedy that relies heavily for its shock value on gooey monster effects rather than cinematic finesse... With the apparent intent of making some comments about our unnatural reliance on television, and technology in general, filmmakers have perhaps bit off too much."

And they weren't wrong. Its a lot like the most recent CREEPSHOW adaptation on SHUDDER, where the whole show is an excuse to cram as many practical effects monsters in as possible. All of the shorts are predictable, all of the acting is god awful, but the effects are done by the masters of the genre. that is this movie.

there is no deeper meaning, no redeeming qualities, nothing even close to clever of funny in the script, no likeable characters, Zilch. Zero. this level of pure shit wouldn't even fly on children's television, and its not hard to see why nobody ever talks about this movie.
