SPLINTER

This movie gives me a chance to talk about 2 things that horror movies/movies in general do tha ti love.

The first is having your movie take place in one location. a hotel room, a gas station, a grocery store, lock your characters in a small space with something outside trying to kill them and im in. some of my favorite films that fit in this category are 1408, 47 meters down, REC, Dawn of the dead, and many others. another prime example of this idea is room 104, which i also highly recommend.

the second thing i love is the idea of a creature/parasite that can still try and kill you even if thees only a small part of it left. The main example i immediately think of is John Carpenters "The Thing". even a small dish of blood will react violently when poked by a hot piece of steel. another part of the creature design i like in this movie is humans moving in impossible ways. The example of this i think of first is the backwards up the stairs bit in the exorcist, but this is used in most creature design in movies.

thank you indulging my rant on horror tropes, now back to your regularly scheduled review of "SPLINTER". as you already know, im a fan of the location and creature design. when paired with the practical effects, and a decent script, this movie is pretty great. dont really have much more to say about this one, but if you have the chance i recommend giving this one a shot.

7/10
