HALLOWEEN(2018)

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

This movie kicks ass, and is a very close second in my ranking if Halloween movies. A lot of the shots in this movie are mirror images of shots from the original. The best example is when the granddaughter is looking out the window, and sees Lori standing there menacingly where Michael Myers once was 40 years ago. You can tell the people making this movie were real super fans of the original movie, and their love of the genre is probably what makes this movie as good as it is.

Almost every character in the movie is three dimensional, and isn't presented as purely good or purely evil. I say almost of course, because once again Michael Myers is portrayed as pure evil. Put aside from him you're a lot of likeable and complex characters in this one. Lori for example is no longer the innocent victim, and is a flawed mother, grandmother, and person. She isn't perfect, but deep down she only wants what's best for her kids and her family.

Even though her methods are extreme, and sometimes hurtful, it's not too hard to sympathize with her. Laurie isn't the only likable character either. Karen and her family are all well acted characters, and have real chemistry as a family. And that kid Vicky is babysitting is absolutely hilarious. God so many good character i could rant about it for many long time

But if you're a sick f*** like me, you're probably here mostly for The Kills. So let's talk about those for a minute. The Shape lives only to kill, and he will wait however long is necessary to kill again. He is hyper aware, intelligent, and only has one purpose. That purpose of course, is delivering some sweet fucking kills. There isn't a single kill in this movie I don't like. There are a few off-screen ones, but even those are presented in such a way that I can't help but love it. I think part of making Michael Myers so scary is having violent kills oh, and boy oh boy do we get some violent kills.

Good kills, great characters, amazing score, and some lovley nostalgia. Whats not to like?

10/10
