the real reason this movie is so well known is Chucky. Brad Douriff is amazing as Charles Lee Ray, and has the perfect voice for Chucky. A lot like Freddy Kruger, he manages to be both scary and hilarious in the same scene. and of course the animatronics are incredible for the time. it was the first time anyone had tried to do a character like chucky, and the effect almost always look amazing. i often rant about how amazing practical effects look, and this movie is a prime example.
besides Chucky, this movie isn't super remarkable. Andy is a great actor, the detective is hot, and the voodoo man is pretty fun as well. if you take a mediocre plot and fill it with awesome characters, you get child's play.
